My Vape Tastes Sweet: Does It Contain Sugar?

If your vape tastes sweet, you might be wondering whether there is actual sugar in your e-liquid. The good news is that most reputable e-liquids do not contain refined table sugar — but they do use sweetening agents that create that satisfying sweet sensation.

The most common sweetener used in e-liquids is sucralose, a synthetic sweetener that provides intense sweetness without the calorie content of sugar. While sucralose itself doesn't burn the same way as sugar, it can cause coil gunking over time — leaving a dark residue on your coil that shortens its lifespan.

Other sweetness in e-liquids comes naturally from the propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) base. VG in particular has a naturally mild sweetness that contributes to the overall taste profile.

If you find your coils wearing out quickly with sweet flavours, try using coils rated for high-VG juices and clean your tank regularly. Choosing less sweetened e-liquids can also help extend coil life significantly.
